In 2008, IT application market in SMBs' informatization remains the focus of various major vendors. What is different from the past is that the development direction for SMBs' informatization is becoming clearer. SMBs' demands for informatization are mainly focused on the issues of survival that need to be solved urgently, which is way different from those large enterprises which are more concerned with long-term profits, strategy and control and management. SMBs have strongest demand for CRM and sales management, which are focused on customer management and driven by the market, with contracts as the main line, performance as the target and network as the platform. SMBs expect to make IT investments in the most economical and practical way to play to this demand, which gives rise to the concepts of one-stop service and SAAS model.

In the fight for SMB market, more and more IT vendors highlight their differentiated competition strategies to provide to SMBs with industry-specific ERP products that meet the accounting- business-in-one and production-supply-sales-in-one demands. And SMBs are concerned with products' "simplicity, easy-to-use, speed, security and high performance/price ratio" provided by IT vendors; in the meantime, governments are giving more attention to SMBs' informatization development, and policy environment is favorable for the development of SMBs. However, in the wake of intensified global financial crisis, in spite of various favorable elements, the informatization in most of SMBs is still at the initial stage, and some window-dressing new concepts fail to deliver substantial management transformations for SMBs. Therefore, 2008 is just a start-up year of informatization.
