Report Highlights

To step up the efforts in the coordination of environment policies, planning and major issues, China sets up Ministry of Environment Protection whose main responsibilities are to organize and implement environmental protection planning, policies and standards, organize and work out environmental function divisions, supervise and manage environmental pollution prevention, and coordinate the efforts in addressing major environmental issues. The fact that the Bureau of Environmental Protection is elevated to Ministry of Environmental Protection indicates Chinese government's increased emphasis on environmental protection. The setup of the Ministry is conducive to the development of environmental protection endeavors.

In 2008, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued Notice on the Further Implementation of Program for Automatically Monitoring State-controlled Major Pollution Sources (Huan Fa NO 25 [2008]), which put forward standards for developing pollution source monitoring centers and sites, mandating that five regional monitoring centers, 32 provincial-level application units, 333 prefecture and municipal-level application units complete their projects in developing the capabilities in automatic monitoring of state-controlled major pollution sources within the year.

Therefore, the 2008-2009 Annual Report on the Informatization Development of China's Environmental Protection Industry released by us will provide references and recommendations in the following aspects to help environmental protection-related enterprises, IT vendors and investors get better grasp of the priorities and demands in the development of informatization in China's environmental protection industry as well as opportunities in the market of environmental protection informatization:
