In 2008, because of financial crisis, the development of global computer industry slows down. Gloomy global economy and harsh credit market reduce consumers' and enterprises' purchases. America, Europe and Japan reduce their demands for PCs. In 2008, the shipment of global PCs has large decrease. The new emerging markets such as Middle East, Africa and Latin America are also affected by the financial crisis. China's market has been affected by the financial crisis, which kept rapid development in recent years. Besides Internet bubble busted in 2000, the whole computer industry faces the most severe situation.
With regard to market structure, the trend of notebook PC replacing desktop PC is more obvious. In 2008, the growth rate of global notebook PC is head of the growth rate of desktop PC. As for brand structure, the competition between PC giants is heating up. In 2008, HP still has the largest market share, DELL has the second largest market shares, but Taiwan's manufacturers have excellent performance: Acer strengthens its third position through converging Gateway and Packard Bell; especially benefit from Netbook's astonishing performance, its PC shipment has large growth, its gap with Dell has narrowed to less than 2%. Besides, although ASUS's shipment lags behind Lenovo in 2008, based on EeePC's excellent performance, ASUS's notebook computer has exceeded Lenovo, which becomes the fifth largest notebook computer vendors.
