Report Highlights
In 2008, affected by global financial crisis, energy price's fluctuation and market's continuous depression, the growth rate of global semiconductor market is significantly lower than the growth rate of 9.2%, which is predicted at the beginning of 2008. The industry size is $261.94 billion, up 2.5% year-on-year, which is the minimum value in recent five years. Judging from the five-year development cycle, the compound growth rate of global semiconductor market during 2004 to 2008 is 5.3%. The market is in depression in many years.
With regard to product categories, logic devices and optoelectronic devices have the best performances, up 13.3% and 14.5% year-on-year. Sensor and analog devices have gotten out of negative growth in 2007, up 5.7% and 3.2% year-on-year. Memory is the major reason, which results in semiconductor industrial growth rate's slowdown. Because memory price has large decrease, its sales revenue is down 15.2% year-on-year. Microprocessor has low growth rate, up 1.5% year-on-year. Discrete device has moderate growth, up 5.3% year-on-year.
With regard to regional competition situation, although global market is depressed, thanks to the transfer of electronic information manufacturing and strong demand in the local market, the Asia-Pacific market is still the fastest grower, taking up a share of some 50.7% in the world's total. With regard to product application, the PC market and communications market remain the two largest application fields, while the consumer electronics and automotive electronics markets are booming.
With regard to enterprises' competition pattern, in the face of the global semiconductor industrial winter, Fabless has outstanding performance. It is the first time for Qualcomm to enter the top ten semiconductor suppliers in 2008. Broadcom's ranking continues to move forward, Nvidia becomes the third Fabless enterprise entering the top 20 semiconductor vendors. Major memory vendors have been restricted in operation crisis.
In the face of changes and challenges of competition and market, we release 2008-2009 Annual Report on the Development of Global IC Industry (General Report), which helps the government, vendors, investors and industry insiders grasp more accurately laws governing the industry's development and comb the development track of application value:
* In-depth, full and accurate industry research data: On the basis of deep research in the application of IC products, the report depicts changes in the market from the angle of industry structure, product structure, regional competition structure, and structure of the industry chain, and clearly identifies development trend.
* All-round and in-depth brand competition analysis: we sum up enterprises' successes and failures in the dimension of situation in market segments and competitive strategies, and reviews the makings of leading players in the market.
* Scientific and complete forecasts: Through modeling regression and expert verification in major market segments, the report examines related links in the industry, and presents valuable trend analysis and quantitative forecast result.
