In 2007, China's transportation industry went through yet another year of fast growth. Highway fixed assets investment grew by 26%, while China achieved the world's largest passenger turnover, goods freight volume, conversion turnover and transport density in its railway transportation. Between January and September this year, the aviation industry achieved transportation flights of 2.735 million hours, up by 16.6% year-on-year. The number of air planes also increased by 101 sets.
In terms of investment, railway investment during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan Period is expected to reach RMB1.25 trillion. In the first half of 2007, fixed aviation asset investment amounted to RMB10.4 billion, up by 3% year-on-year. For the entire civil aviation industry, total fixed asset investment is planned to hit RMB26 billion. Highway construction investment is expected to reach RMB660 billion, while 53,000 Km of expressway open to traffic. In the first 3 quarters of 2007, public-listed expressway enterprises saw their net profits up by 34.3%.
