Report Highlights
In 2007, China's power grid industry met with new growth opportunities and
starred to enter a new development stage.
Worldwide, the Kyoto Protocol and the power security issue have gradually become
the content of grid cooperation between countries. As technologies for use of
green energies such as wind power, solar energy and tidal energy deepen,
countries have continued to raise the percentage of green energy in their power
structure. However, while energy consumption worldwide continues falls,
developing countries have seen their energy consumption rising continuously,
becoming an important driving force for national economic growth. Meanwhile to
effectively control the influence of electric power on their national economies,
various countries have gradually stepped up macro regulation of their power grid
industry.
Due to technological and management needs, there is strengthened networking
inside regional grids and between State Grid Corporation of China and China
Southern Power Grid Corporation. China's power grid industry has been growing
steadily, Due to the rise in primary energies such as coal, the China
Electricity Council wrote to the State Development and Reform Commission asking
for linking coal a and power generation t the end of 2007 and suggested
electricity price rises. However, turning coal to electricity will further push
forward grid building and development. But, electricity price rises will not
solve the problem of low efficiency in grid enterprises.
Because the 2 major grid companies basically have oligarch monopoly in their
regions, grid efficiency will become a key indicator to assess enterprises'
operations. For this, the 2 major grid companies will respectively analyze and
evaluate their efficiency and continue to push forward their enterprise growth.
On the whole, the domestic and international environment in 2008 will be
favorable for the growth of China's power grid industry.
