Report Highlights
The year 2006 marked the beginning of China 11th Five-Year Plan. In the first three quarters, thanks to sound fiscal and monetary policies, the national economy continued to head for the anticipated direction, achieving fast growth in reasonable adjustment, providing necessary assurance for the healthy development of the hydropower industry.
For the first three quarters of 2006, power generation totaled 2,011.1 billion kWh, with a YOY rise of 12.9% and the growth rate dropped 0.5 percentage point year-on-year, largely ascribable to the slowdown of hydropower generation. For the three quarters, hydropower generation rose 6.4% year-on-year; the growth rate was 14.6 percentage points down from the same period of the previous year. The coal-fired generation climbed 14.5% year-on-year; the growth rate was 2.3 percentage points up from the previous year.
Due to enhanced power supply capacity, power shortage was eased significantly. During peak seasons, the maximum power shortage is some 13 million kW, dropping nearly half from 2005 year-on-year and a YOY decrease of 91.3% in the number of blackouts.
