Report Highlights

The 2006-2007 Annual Report on Investment Opportunities in China Wind Power Industry provides rare valuable reference to wind power equipment manufactures, related wind power enterprises and strategic investors to identify the present situation of the wind power industry, and grasp enterprise positioning and development direction.

In 2006, China's macro-economy maintained steady growth, growth of investment in fixed assets slowed down, and consumer spending rose at an expedited pace.  The stable macroeconomic environment created condition for the healthy development of the electric power industry.

In 2006, the development of wind power sped up evidently.  As of September 2006, in China excluding Taiwan Province, on a cumulative basis there were 1,864 wind power units, with installed capacity of 1,266,000 kW; there were 62 wind farms, distributed in 15 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions, special administrative regions).  In 2006, cumulative installed capacity of wind power grew 65.6% year-on-year from 2005.  Large quantities of wind power units are installed in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Guangdong and Liaoning.

According to statistics as of September 2006, China's wind power market, home-made equipment take up 22.7% in the total installed capacity, and foreign equipment 77.3%.  For wind power equipment installed in China in 2006, foreign-invested enterprises still take the lion  share, with a market share of 70%.  Domestic wind power equipment enterprises now have an edge in competing with foreign players.

Investing or operating in the wind power industry is subject to policy risks and changes in the industry environment of the upstream and downstream sectors.  On-grid electricity price set through bidding and the low percentage of homemade wind power equipment are key risks currently faced by the industry.
