Report Highlights

In 2006, China photovoltaic industry still maintained fast growth.  Yet despite the shortage of polycrystalline silicon materials, overcapacity emerged in many enterprises, which narrowed profit margin.  As the domestic market is not started up yet, Chinese photovoltaic products are largely exported to other countries.  The EU is the fastest-growing market.

Industry Development Environment:  with the promulgation of the Law on Renewable Energy Sources, many areas and enterprises see the photovoltaic industry broad prospects, and step up efforts to develop the industry.  Local governments also actively promote investment by offering preferential policies.  However, China does not provide specific subsidy policy for the photovoltaic industry as developed countries do; it still lags far behind developed countries like Germany and Japan in infrastructure and scientific research system.

Industry Competitiveness:  in the manufacturing sector, China photovoltaic industry improved its competitiveness rapidly; it still lags considerably behind Japan and Germany in R&D and market.  In China, Shanghai and Jiangsu have the most competitive industry development environment for manufacturing, R&D and market.  On the strength of a sound industry chain, Hebei ranks among the top three regions in regional competitiveness.  Wuxi Suntech Power, Ningjin Jinglong, Tianwei Yingli, and CEEG Nanjing PV-Tech are the most competitive enterprises with outstanding professional and unique features.

In the face of competition, changes and challenges in the market, the 2006-2007 Annual Report on Competitiveness of China Photovoltaic Industry which helps governments, enterprises, investors and the industry chain to grasp more accurately the pulse of China photovoltaic industry in the following aspects, to provide information and recommendations for mapping out policies and development strategies:

Backed by full and accurate market description data, the report depicts development and changes in 2006 from the angle of product structure, regions and provinces, and value chain, to discern the industry  development trend;

It elaborates on the competition performance of major regions and enterprises in China photovoltaic industry in 2006, and sums up the industry competitiveness and development trend in the respect of manufacturing, R&D and market;

It compares the policy environment and development performance of the industry in various regions across China, and reviews leading vendors competition strategies and failures and losses.
