Report Summary

China has abundant emerging energy sources and renewable energy sources.  With technological progress, increase in production scale and improvement policy mechanism, in the next 15 years or so, solar water heater, wind power generation, solar photovoltaic power generation, geothermal heating and geothermal heating, and bio-energy utilization technology will get into a position to compete with conventional energy sources, becoming substitute energy sources.  These technologies are conductive to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and protecting the environment, and are expected to become an effective alternative of clean energy supply in this century.  By 2020, the emerging and renewable energy source industry will become an emerging industry in the national economy, with immense development space in the future.

The year 2006 is the first year of the 11th Five-Year Plan period, a crucial period for developing the emerging energy and energy conservation industry.  A host of supporting policies for encouraging the development of the emerging energy industry were introduced and implemented.  In terms of the industry cycle, it is still in the preliminary stage.  The emerging energy and energy conservation industry has broad development space.  For example, the photovoltaic industry will keep growing 30% annually by 2010.  In the subsequent 40 years, it will maintain an annual average growth rate of 25%, faster than the IT industry.  Therefore, the emerging energy and energy conservation industry faces major opportunities in terms of both concept and actual development, with the imagination for fast growth.  Behind the fast growth, there are still vast industry barriers.

The 2006-2007 Annual Report on the Development of China Emerging Energy Industry is aimed to serve investors who are upbeat about China's emerging energy industry and intend to invest in this sector.  By describing and analyzing the development of the global and Chinese emerging energy industries, the report identifies the development trend of this sector, examines leading domestic enterprises, and puts forward recommendations for investing in China's emerging energy industry.
