【Preface】

    From 1999 to 2004, China’s stainless steel apparent consumption ha
s boomed，reaching a new record level of 4.5~4.8 Mill t in 2004, an uni
maginable increase of 40% over the 0.86 Mill tons recorded in 1998.Not 
surprisingly, domestic supplies have increased as well. According to ou
r statistic data up to 2004, the output capacities of the major stainle
ss steel mills have reached 1.2 million ton cold rolled and 0.17million
 ton hot rolled, with the Privately Owned Mills supplying 2 Mill tons C
R and 1 Mill tons separately HR.

    Although Chinese mainland has enormous demand to absorb the new cap
acity on the quantities level, yet the new capacity doesn’t seem to re
lease smoothly and then result in some difficulties of China’s stainle
ss steel market in the early 4 months in 2005. What is the reason? At t
his point, we make a comprehensive study on the following two aspects--
 China’s stainless steel supply in different types and real demand of 
five end-use industries, discussing the contradiction between the curre
nt market mode formed in recent years and the transforming of stainless
 steel market pattern.
